It's actually not astonishing at all.

It's more complex than other machines from the period but
other machines, gearing are known.

Astronomical clocks are known in Europe from the 1300s, and
the Antikythera Mechanism is vastly LESS sophisticated.

It's unpowered -- believed to have operated by turning a crank --
and it of course lacked a clock.

The Antikythera Mechanism is NOT a computer. It does not
compute anything. You might as well insist that your door
knob is a computer as it effectively does the same thing: You
turn it and that results in mechanical motion, opening the door.

The Antikythera Mechanism is a wondrous device, on which
maggots misunderstand and misrepresent.

NOTE: It doesn't even work!

All the so called "Reproductions" you can find -- just Google
it -- either add parts that don't exist or eliminate parts which
do.

It's clickbait. Hype.

The Antikythera Mechanism is NOT a computer. It does not compute
anything. You do not enter values. It's an astronomical clock absent
the clock, only not as sophisticated.

Clocks have a power source. The Antikythera Mechanism does not.
it has a crank. You don't "Wind it up" with the crank, the crank is the
power. A "Wind up" clock has a spring. The winding-up tensions the
spring which then powers the clock as it loosens. Period. The
Antikythera Mechanism has nothing. You turn the handle and it
moves. You don't turn the handle and it doesn't move. Simple as that.

It also doesn't tell time. So it's an astronomical clock minus the
clock and the power source.

The Antikythera Mechanism doesn't even work!

All the so called reproductions -- ALL OF THEM -- either add gears
that don't exist or ignore gears that were recovered with the main
body. There is no such thing as a functioning "Reproduction" that
uses the parts as found. Yet..

Ridiculous claims regarding function and accuracy can be found
all over the internet. Why? There are no actual reproductions.
Nobody can state with certainty how it was fully assembled much
less how it performed, it's accuracy...
